Chang Tsing was a principal dancer
in this Malaysian play about the spirit of an abused woman and the trees.
Although having to face abuse from her husband, the woman seeks consolation
in fighting to protect the trees from being cut down to make way for
development.
"The trees had stood there for longer than even the oldest in the village could remember. The trees were of a quality and beauty unsurpassed. Their species was unknown. Veneration for the trees bordered on the religious for some...To others, pilgrims in search of different gods, art replicated life as the trees invoked the imagery of the verse of the legendary poets."
